Frequently Asked Questions

Are you taking new patients?
Yes, from infancy through 17 years of age. After age 17, your child should begin a relationship with an internist or family doctor as he/she transitions to becoming independent adults.

How do I transfer my care from another pediatrician?
Notify your current physician of your plan to change doctors and request that your child's records be faxed to our office (Fax: 251-300-2035). You are welcome to see us before this is completed unless you have Medicaid. Medicaid financed care must be registered with us before the initial visit.

What hospital do you use?
Thomas Hospital in Fairhope is our primary facility for emergency room service and admissions. However, if the condition warrants, you may be referred to other Centers of Excellence in Mobile or Pensacola.

For very special needs we will refer you to the best care facility in the United States. Since Dr. Peterson is familiar with a referral practice and the national options, he will apprise you of those options and arrange the referral for you.

Will you refer us to a specialist if we feel it is appropriate?
Yes. Your child should have the best treatment available and we stand ready to refer you to the best specialists in the area, or to another pediatrician if you want a second opinion.

Do I have access to medical care 24/7?
Yes. We are available for telephone consultation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Emergency medical care is available at Thomas Hospital Emergency Department.

Will you come to the hospital for the delivery of my baby?
Yes. Dr. Grant will be attending in the newborn nursery and will be there for you and your baby.

Will my child always see the same doctor when we come to the office?
For well-child visits and most sick visits each pediatrician will care for their own patients. However, it is possible that due to emergencies or absence from the office, a pediatrician other than your own may see your child. In the case of urgent, sick child visits the available pediatrician in the office will see your child.

Who is allowed to bring my child to the office?
With your written permission, any person is allowed to bring your child to the office. Click here to print a sample permission form. We strongly recommend a parent/legal guardian accompany your child to the office for any well child checkups, vaccinations, or procedures so that you are available to answer any questions that may come up in the course of that visit. Your signature is also needed for any vaccines your child receives.

How does your office handle school/sports/camp/daycare forms that need to be completed and signed?
If your child is up to date on his or her regular well-child check ups, we are happy to fill out forms for school, sports, daycare or camps. Forms can be dropped off or faxed to our office. If you will be picking up the form, let us know and we will call you when it is completed. If you would prefer to have the formed mailed to a specified address, please include a completed permission form (click here), and a stamped and addressed envelope to speed processing.

Most forms are completed within a few business days. Please notify us if there is a deadline for the form to be completed and we will do our best to accommodate you.

How do I get a prescription refilled?
To refill a prescription please call the office and leave the following information:

  • Your child's name
  • His/her date of birth
  • The name of the medication
  • The telephone number of the pharmacy (if you want us to call it in to the pharmacy)
